Q: My eyes are always tired and dry, and my vision seems to get worse and worse. Are computer and phone screens to blame and can I do anything about it?

A: I share your concerns and can definitely relate. Just the other evening, I was frantically trying to finish doing my taxes. I had been staring at my laptop screen for at least two hours, and my eyes were straining and my vision was getting blurry. I was at the point where I was about to call it a night and try to finish up the next day when I remembered the “night light” setting on my laptop. I turned it on and the tint of the screen turned from a painful blue to an almost sepia tone. Amazingly, my eye strain instantly went away and I was able to finish doing my taxes. What a relief!

We are literally frying our eyes with computer and phone screens!

So what was happening? Many of today’s electronic devices use LED back-light technology to help enhance screen brightness and clarity, but this technology is not without consequences. These LEDs emit strong blue light waves that have been shown to damage the macula causing loss of central vision. The macula is a small but crucial part of the retina in the human eye and is responsible for sharp central vision, our ability to see fine detail, and distinct color tones. We’re always on our cell phones, computers, and tablets so we are being exposed to this harmful blue light for longer periods of time so this is becoming a big problem. Turning on the night light setting on your electronic device can limit the harm being done to your eyes, but this setting isn’t always convenient (it’s difficult to use during the day) and the damage has already been done from years of prior blue light exposure.

How can I fix my fried eyes?!

We’re probably not going to start using our cell phones and other electronic devices less so we need a nutritional solution and Wiley’s Finest has answered the call! Lutein, zeaxanthin, bilberry, zinc, vitamin E, astaxanthin, and essential fatty acids have been shown to improve macular health. Wiley’s Finest Bold Vision contains all of these nutrients including the therapeutic dose of FloraGLO®, the most clinically studied lutein, along with Omega-7 from Fish Oil, Anthocyanins from Bilberry, and Astaxanthin from algae.
